Attitudes Anonymous Scenarios #3&4
SCENARIO #3
Facilitator: ____________________
CHAPTER NAME & LOCATION: Chordially Canadian Chapter, Running Waters, Ontario
TIME OF YEAR: End of March
SITE: Your
rehearsal hall
SCENE:
You are a chorus of 56 singers. There are FOUR REHEARSALS left before Regional Competition and your chorus members,
the music team, the director…everyone FEELS this could be THE YEAR that you could WIN your division!! The Director’s focus
is on “WINNING” the Mid-Size Chorus Award and she talks about this throughout the rehearsal. The chorus completely
TRUSTS the Director’s comments and rehearses with intensity, drive, energy and positive attitudes.
The atmosphere is electric and confidence is extremely high. “WINNING” is talked about between stops
and starts of phrases! For the most part, this scenario is filled with the type
of enthusiasm that makes for an outstanding rehearsal! (The focus on WINNING,
however, is misdirected…but the Scenario #4 bunch will fix that!)
CHARACTERS
THAT NEED ASSIGNING:
- Positive, highly motivational well-respected Chorus
Director who emphasizes
WINNING with consistency…
- Hyper-excited Chorus Members…willing to
do just about anything…because they BELIEVE they can “WIN” and talk about it incessantly

Become familiar with SCENARIO
#1 – And, using same personnel, create a role play which emphasizes the “weekly journey”
of singing well…with a focus on an incredible “PERFORMANCE” at Regional Contest…and an emphasis on adding more
points to last year’s already SUPER effort.
Director: Your role is HUGE in this scenario…as your choice of words is the very thing
that can adjust the mindset of the chorus to a more realistic expectation of those “six minutes”. The health of the chorus AFTER contest is contingent on their expectation of the outcome.
CHORUS MEMBERS: Demonstrate that you are pleased with the focus on “confidence”, “improvement in SCORES rather than winning”, etc… Comments thanking
the Director for NOT focusing on the top prize would be invaluable in pointing up what our music teams need to see and hear…
